Young travellers in Ogmore and across Wales have been making the most of discounted bus travel with the ‘MyTravelPass’ travel discount scheme.
Recently improved with enhancements from the Welsh Government the scheme now offers up to a third off bus fares for all journeys taken by young people aged between 16 and 21.
Proving popular with young people out and about in Ogmore, figures recently published already show a take up of 1,141 young travellers in Bridgend County Borough and 1,761 in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Encouraging young people to use the bus for more of their journeys has an immediate and long-term benefit by helping to reduce road congestion, improving air quality and making the bus network a more attractive place for the bus industry to invest.
Ogmore Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies said: “I’m delighted to hear that young travellers across Ogmore are taking up the travel card and benefitting from this popular travel discount scheme aimed at helping young people with affordable transport.
‘MyTravelPass’ is a free travel card that can easily be applied for via the www.mytravelpass.gov.wales/en website and I’d encourage more young travellers across Ogmore to apply so they can also enjoy cheaper bus travel.”
