Staying Young At Heart in Cefn Cribwr
Huw Irranca-Davies AM with members of the Young At Heart Group
Cefn Cribwr Young At Heart Group based in Cefn Cribwr are a long-established successful and popular over 50’s community group run by Enid Lloyd and hard-working volunteers. They meet fortnightly and have regular speakers and demonstrations followed by refreshments, a game of bingo and raffle. They also run regular outings to various places.
Local Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies was invited along to their latest meeting to give a talk to the group and hear all about their latest activities. Mr Irranca-Davies who is also the Welsh Government Minister for Children, Older People and Social Care said: “It’s always a pleasure to catch up with Enid and members of the Young at Heart. With their warm welcome and friendship to older residents living in the local area, groups like this are the lifeblood of our small towns and communities. They can also have a big impact on people’s health and well-being.
Loneliness and social isolation are growing problems that can affect anyone at any age for a wide variety of reasons and during the visit, we also spoke about how the Welsh Government have committed to tackling this problem. With the help of community groups like the Young at Heart we can all try to prevent people from becoming lonely and socially isolated which will not only improve people’s lives but will also help reduce demand for health and social services in the future.”
