Huw is encouraging residents in Ogmore to support Small Business Saturday, on the 3rd of December. He will be visiting his local high-street and speaking to business owners and staff.
Small Business Saturday is a Grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.
The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses. In 2016 Small Business Saturday will take place on Saturday, December 3rd.
Research on spending by local authorities shows that for every £1 spent with a small or medium-sized business 63p stayed in the local economy, compared to 40p with a larger business.
Huw said: “Small Business Saturday is a fantastic concept and I am sure residents in Ogmore will join me in supporting it. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our community and bring real character to it. From local cafes and gift shops, to the garages and tyre-fitters, the bakers and the flower-shops, the butchers and the small precision-engineers…they keep the heart of our communities pumping.
The benefits of shopping local are obvious not least because the money stays and circulates in the local economy.
So that’s why I’ll be supporting Small Business Saturday on 3rd December, buying some of my Christmas presents on my local high street and sending the message that these local businesses really matter. So come along and support your own local businesses and then keep the habit… Small Business Saturday is not just for Christmas!”
