Flying Start Garth

Members of the Flying Start Team and Garth Primary School were joined at the Garth ‘Open Day’

by Huw Irranca-Davies AM and local Councillor Mal Reeves

Huw along with local Councillor Mal Reeves, attended the ‘Open Day’ of Bridgend County Borough Council’s new Flying Start Centre situated within Garth Primary School, Maesteg.

This Welsh Government funded centre will help even more eligible families access a range of services including free high-quality part-time childcare for two to three year-olds, an enhanced health visiting service, access to parenting programmes, and help with early language development. It will have capacity to look after 12 children each weekday morning, and another 12 during afternoons.  Parents are also able to take their children to the centre and stay with them to enjoy ‘Stay and Play’ sessions.  The free sessions, which involve fun activities and a snack, are being held twice a week up until the summer holidays.

Flying Start offers all eligible families funded childcare from the term following their second birthday to the end of the term in which they are three. The offer is for up to 12.5 hours per week for 39 weeks per year (the academic term period).

Flying Start is also offered in parts of Afon y Felin, Bettws, Caerau, Plasnewydd, Sarn, Brackla, Blackmill, Lewistown, Cornelly, Wildmill and Cefn Glas. Welsh Language Childcare is available across Flying Start in partnership with Mudiad Meithrin settings.
