Huw Irranca-Davies, Labour MP for Ogmore, hand-delivered a “Send My Friend to School” petition to 10 Downing Street, signed by pupils from Garth Primary school in Maesteg.
The Send My Friend to School campaign aims to get all children into education by 2015. Currently, across the world almost 57 million children are not in education.
Mr Irranca-Davies said:
“I am very pleased that students in my constituency have taken such an interest in a campaign that raises awareness of the 57 million children worldwide who are not in education. I thank the Prime Minister for responding to Garth Primary School pupils.
“Education and poverty go hand in hand. I sincerely believe that education is one of the most important tools to lifting people out of poverty and towards a better life. I commend the students for highlighting this important campaign.”
