Ogmore MP Keeps Fingers Crossed for Local School Choir

Huw has sent his best wishes and congratulations to the Ysgol Cynwyd Sant school choir who have reached the final 10 in a Welsh Christmas Carol Competition.

Going up against competition from across Wales the choir has now been shortlisted along with ten other school choirs and will perform in the live final. On 19th December at 2pm S4C will broadcast the final on its Prynhawn Da programme.

The fifty strong choir, made up of pupils from Year Three to Year Six are performing a carol written by Ysgol Cybwyd Sant Head Teacher Mrs. Tegwen Ellis, it is based on the Christmas Day truce of 1914. The carol serves to reinforce the children’s learning about the First World War as well as stand as a testament to the enduring place in the country’s collective memory that the First World War holds.

Mr. Irranca-Davies said:

‘I know all the children in the Ysgol Cynwyd Sant has thoroughly enjoyed performing at their school at the Christmas concerts this year. The carol by Mrs. Ellis is a wonderful way of reinforcing their learning and commemorating the World War in this centenary year.’

‘I would like to congratulate all the children in the choir, who have given up their break times and even a Sunday to be so successful. Along with their supportive parents and dedicated staff they should be incredibly proud of their achievement.’

‘Best of luck on 19th December!’
