Ogmore AM and MP Give Local Businesses A Boost!
Local Ogmore duo Huw Irranca-Davies AM and Chris Elmore MP are calling on small businesses to get in touch with them in the run up to Small Business Saturday. Following their successful campaign to blow the trumpet for local businesses last year, Chris and Huw are asking new small and medium sized enterprises to get in touch with them.
Small Business Saturday falls every year on the first Saturday in December and is an annual campaign to support small businesses across the UK. The campaign has grown over the seven years it’s been running in the UK and an estimated £812 million was spent in small businesses across the UK on last year’s Small Business Saturday – an increase of 8% on the previous year.
The campaign calls for any type of small business to get involved – be it family businesses, local shops, online businesses, wholesalers, business services, or small manufacturers.
Huw Irranca-Davies AM and Chris Elmore MP have been supporting this campaign for a number of years and in the run-up to this year’s Small Business Saturday would like local small businesses to get in touch and tell them what they do and what success they’ve had over the year. They will then promote a different small business via their social media feeds every day throughout November.
Business owners are asked to submit a photograph of their local enterprise if they would like to be featured on social media – and they are very welcome to star in the photograph as well!
Huw Irranca-Davies AM said: “I’m always amazed by the level of talent we have across the constituency and it’s great to hear about the success of our small businesses which very often start as just a great idea. It’s been good to be able to bang the drum for local businessmen and women in the past and I hope others will get in touch so we can help promote their business ventures.
“Chris and I will continue to support small businesses in any way we can in the future.”
Chris Elmore MP said: “This is a great opportunity for small businesses to get their voices heard. We have some fantastic local businesses across Ogmore and this is a fantastic way of reaching a new audience! Small businesses are such an important part of our local economy and support our communities. I’m proud to be able to support them and will continue to do so!”
In previous years, small businesses from across Ogmore have received prestigious awards, from being invited to a reception at 10 Downing Street to winning Bridgend Business Forum’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ awards, amongst others.
