MP and AM “Paws” Parliamentary Duties To Congratulate Aviva Winners
Ogmore MP and AM, Chris Elmore and Huw Irranca-Davies, have visited a local winner of the Aviva Community Fund to congratulate them on their success.
Hope Rescue, a dog rescue charity based in Llanharan, won one of the fund’s top awards of £25,000 to help them develop as an organisation. The centre cares for stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs from across South Wales. They also help pet owners in crisis who can no longer look after their pets.
The group won a total of 8,802 votes from the public during the ballot period.
After having a tour of the centre, Chris Elmore MP said: “I’m delighted that the team at Hope Rescue have been successful in their quest for funding. They really do provide an invaluable service and have protected thousands of animals from harm over the years. I’m pleased that this money will allow them to expand and make the charity sustainable long into the future.”
Huw Irranca-Davies AM added: “It’s marvellous that Hope Rescue have had this extraordinary success with the Aviva Community Fund. It’s such a competitive funding stream and the fact they’ve been successful is a testament to how much of a wider community benefit the charity has.
The charity will use the money to construct a new “Sensory Garden” to help dogs reacclimatise to living in a home again.
Amy Greenfield, Fundraising Manager at Hope Rescue, said: “We are very grateful to them both for taking time out from their busy schedules to visit us. They certainly enjoyed meeting some of our dogs and hearing about our plans for the future. We feel very fortunate to receive this funding and would like to thank everyone who voted for us.”
