Local AM Supports Welsh Government’s Decision to Declare a Climate Emergency

My contribution to the Climate Change Debate in the Senedd

The declaration sends a clear signal that the Welsh Government will not allow the process of leaving the EU to detract from the challenge of climate change, which threatens our health, economy, infrastructure and our natural environment.

The announcement draws attention to the magnitude and significance of the latest evidence from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and highlights the recent climate protests across the UK.

Ogmore Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies said: “All governments across the world have a moral responsibility to act and do much more for the long-term future of our planet as well as for this and future generations and the Welsh Government are right to declare a climate emergency.

As individuals we should be considering possible changes we can make to the way we live, work, travel, take our holidays, what we buy, eat, and more. Tackling climate change requires collective action and I hope the government’s decision inspires others to take action – from our own communities, businesses and organisations to parliaments and governments across the world.”
