Local AM supports ‘Strictly Cymru’ stars at Leonard Cheshire event
Leonard Cheshire welcomed Huw Irranca-Davies AM as a guest judge to their fourth regional heat of Strictly Cymru, an inclusive dance competition for disabled individuals of all ages.
The event, held at Bethlem Life Centre in Cefn Cribwr, included dancers from across the constituency, who took to the floor to show off their dance moves as part of Leonard Cheshire’s many sporting and cultural activities designed to offer more inclusive opportunities to people living with a disability.
Many groups and soloists showed the results of their hard work and training with professional dance choreographers to bring fun, entertainment and sparkle to the competition. The winners of this heat will then go on to compete at the National final which will be held on 6th June 2020 in South Wales.
The charity, who support individuals living with a disability and work to break down barriers to access, received funding for the event and said that ‘any monies raised will go back into supporting more disabled people to have access to sporting and leisure opportunities.’ They were also supported by ParaDance UK who focus on training athletes and dancers through to competition level.
Ogmore Senedd Member Huw Irranca-Davies said: “My thanks to the volunteers and staff of Leonard Cheshire Cymru and everyone else involved in the organising of a wonderful fun filled event. It was a joy to see everyone enjoying themselves. Well done.”
