Ogmore MP Huw Irranca-Davies has received yet another prestigious award. As well as being named The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management’s Environmental MP of the year for 2012 Huw has now be made Total Politics Magazine’s MP of the month for February.
Huw won the award for his work in standing up for farmers and consumers in the Ogmore constituency and across the nation by persuading the government to u-turn on the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) Bill.
The GCA bill seeks to regulate the relationship between suppliers and retailers of the food products we all buy each and every day. Originally the government only planned to allow the Groceries Adjudicator to name and shame retailers who treated their suppliers unfairly. However, thanks to Huw’s efforts the Bill will now create an ombudsman with teeth who is able to impose fines on retailers who mistreat their suppliers.
Total Politics magazine said “Irranca-Davies’s website has the tagline ‘Working hard for Ogmore’, but his long-term efforts on this Bill show that he’s working hard towards everything he believes in.”
Huw said “It is an honour to be named Total Politics MP of the month. Though I can’t take all the credit I am proud of the work done to ensure that the GCA Bill truly serves the needs of the food industry, farmers and of consumers.”
