Huw Irranca-Davies, MP for Ogmore, celebrated the launch of Bike Week by taking part in the annual Parliamentary Bike Ride.
The Bike Ride was hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group, a cross party group which promotes cycling at all levels. The APPCG has been organising the annual Parliamentary Bike Ride for over 20 years.
This year, the ride also marked the beginning of Bike Week, an annual opportunity to promote cycling and show how cycling can be part of everyday life. Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, the week aims to get people to give cycling a go all over the UK.
This year’s Bike Week had a special focus and encouraged people to use their bikes to cycle to work.
Huw Irranca-Davies was joined on the ride by dozens of cyclists, including several MPs and peers.
Mr Irranca-Davies said, “Cycling is great. Not only is it an environmentally friendly way to travel, it’s also a good way to stay healthy. I cycle to work every day so it was fantastic to see many of my colleagues in parliament out there pedaling alongside me.”
“With more and more people cycling to work, it’s more important than ever to promote this method of transportation. Happy bike week!”
