Huw Irranca-Davies MS, urges EU nationals living in Wales to secure Welsh settlement by June

Member of the Senedd for Ogmore, Huw Irranca-Davies, raised the necessity for EU national living in Wales to secure settlement status before the 30th of June deadline. The concern is amplified by the fact that over 1500 people in Wales have not yet secured UK settlement status.

‘Polish, German and Portuguese citizens’, have made Ogmore their home, having established families, benefited the local economy and enriched our communities with their presence. The need to keep these nationals in Wales has been emphasised by the crucial roles many of them played throughout the pandemic, in keeping our services running and providing vital care to affected Welsh citizens.

Huw highlighted the further need to ensure that “EU families are made aware of how to secure settled status in Wales and crucially that Wales is a place we all call home!”

First Minister Mark Drakeford has responded to this by ensuring that the Government would continue to fund a wide range of services to support settled status applications, including foreign language applications and an extended deadline.

Kate Henson Chief officer from Bridgend Citizens Advice echoed this sentiment by saying, ‘there is still time to apply for settled and pre-settled status if you haven’t applied already’. “if you’re struggling with the complex system we can help, and we’d urge you to give us a call on 01446509897 to speak with one of our advisors.”

She also added that we can even provide translation should you need it and reinforced the concern that it is vitally important that people don’t miss their opportunity to remain in Wales. If you or someone you know needs to apply and has yet to secure their settled status call the number above or contact the relevant offices with the information below.
