Pupils of Garth Primary School have sent a powerful message to Huw as their Assembly Member and to First Minister Carwyn Jones about the importance of education for everyone around the world.
They made powerful messages in the form of colourful paper school bags, carrying explanations of what they would miss most if they had to leave their schooling behind.
This is part of the annual “Send My Friend To School Campaign” which Huw has supported for many years. With the help of local schools, Huw has previously presented the campaign to the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary, but this is the first time that the leader of our Welsh Government has received the messages from Huw and the local children.
This year the messages hope to raise awareness with world leaders of the need to deliver education for the 37 million children who are out of school in countries affected by war, natural disasters and other emergencies.
Huw recently presented the paper rucksacks covered with important messages to Welsh Government First Minister Carwyn Jones AM and said “Many thanks to the children and staff of Garth Primary for their time and effort in presenting such detailed and hard-hitting messages. Worldwide, more children than ever before are finding themselves displaced from their homes. Every child deserves an education as a basic human right and we all have a duty to try ensure that this is available to all children regardless of where they live.”
