e Welsh Government is supporting Wales’ sport and leisure sector with a £14million funding package to be managed by ‘Sport Wales’.

The ‘Sport and Leisure Recovery Fund’ will be available soon to complement the current ‘Hardship Fund’ for local government, and will provide essential support to sports clubs and organisations through the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and help them prepare for the future.

Ogmore’s Member of the Senedd Huw Irranca-Davies welcomed the announcement and urged sporting groups across Ogmore to apply to the emergency funding pot when applications open.

Mr Irranca-Davies MS said: “This is a very welcome and essential package of financial support for our struggling sport and leisure sector who have also been hit hard by the ongoing pandemic.

I am pleased the Welsh Government recognise the importance of safe sport and activity provision for our communities and have made this funding available. I would urge local clubs and groups across Ogmore to apply to this sport rescue package when it becomes available.”

Any clubs and groups looking for immediate support can also consider the ‘Be Active Wales Fund’ which has already protected hundreds of clubs and is helping them to prepare for a safe and responsible return to sport.
