And They’re Off! – Maesteg’s First Parkrun

with Phil White

174 runners braved the weather for Maesteg’s first ever Parkrun at Maesteg Welfare Park. Made possible through joint working with BAVO (via their Llynfi Valley 20 Project), Bridgend County Borough Council, Halo Leisure, Yr Hen Blwyth Running Club and members of the community.

Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies and BCBC Cabinet Member Councillor Phil White helped to set-off the run which was under the command of Event Director Emma Marshall.

Huw said: “Huge effort went into making the run a great success with many people from Maesteg, and visitors from further afield, taking part in the run.  With loads of smiling volunteers, the run showed Maesteg Park at it’s very best.  Well done everyone involved and as always to Friends of Maesteg Park for their constant work. The friendliness and great organisation of the local organisers ensured the run was successful.

The Maesteg Parkrun is a regular thing now on Saturday mornings, and all are welcome; For more details:  Twitter: @maestegparkrun  Facebook: Maesteg park run
