Abseiling into the Rhondda Tunnel
Updated: Jul 14
Huw Irranca-Davies MS and other representatives visit the Rhondda Tunnel, where they are hoisted down a ventilation shaft into the Tunnel.
Following the visit, Huw said: “An exciting but unusual start to a Friday morning, as a whole load of us got dropped down a ventilation shaft into the Rhondda Tunnel, and then took a kilometre walk underground from the Blaengwynfi end towards the Rhondda and back.
My thanks to the Rhondda Tunnel Society for making this possible.
What an asset this would be, and what a tourist attraction for Wales and the South Wales valleys: it would be the longest 365 days a year walking/cycling tunnel in the world!
My thanks also to Steve and all for being great guides and so welcoming. Let's persuade the UK government to put some serious investment in this project."
