20mph ‘Should be the Default Speed Limit for Residential Areas’
Ogmore Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies has welcomed comments from the First Minister, that speed limits of 20mph could be introduced in all residential areas in Wales.
The announcement builds on the hundreds of millions already invested by the Welsh Labour Government, to provide 20mph zones in many parts of Wales.
First Minister Mark Drakeford said this week:“The Welsh Government believe that 20 mph should be the default speed limit for residential areas and we are looking into identifying the practical actions needed to implement 20 mph speed limits in residential areas across Wales”
Supporting the news, Huw Irranca-Davies AM said: “Excellent news from the Welsh Government that the 20mph will become the default speed limit for residential areas in Ogmore and across Wales.
This is a major step towards, safer, more people-centred communities. Whilst also helping towards us becoming an ‘Active Travel’ nation it will make people more confident to cycle and walk rather than jump in the car.”
